少年易老學難成하니

(소년이로학난성)

소년은 늙기 쉽고 

학문은 이루기 어려우니, 

一寸光陰不可輕이라

(일촌광음불가경)

한치의 광음도

(光陰:짧은 시간) 

가벼이 여기지 말라. 

未覺池塘春草夢하여

(미각지당춘초몽)

못가의 봄풀은 

아직 꿈에서 

깨지 못했는데,

階前梧葉已秋聲이라

(계전오엽이추성)

섬돌 앞 오동나무는 

벌써 가을 소리를 내느니라

[朱子의 偶成이라는 詩이다]

覺깨달을각,깰교,池못지,

塘못당,夢꿈몽,階섬돌계,

梧오동나무오,葉잎엽,

已이미이,秋가을추,

聲소리성,

Since boys are easy 

get old and 

studies are hard 

to accomplish, 

you shouldn't take a 

single minute lightly. 

While the spring 

grasses at  the pond 

are still day-dreaming,

 princess trees in front 

of stepping stones 

already make an 

autumn sound.
