物格而后知至

(물격이후지지)하고 

[사물의 이치가 이른 뒤에 

 앎이 지극해지고]

知至而后意誠

(지지이후의성)하고

[앎이 지극해진 뒤에 

 뜻이 성실해지고]

意誠而后心正

(의성이후심정)하고 

[뜻이 성실해진 뒤에 

 마음이 바르게 되고]

心正而后身修

(심정이후신수)하고 

[마음이 바르게 된 후에 

 몸이 닦이고]

身修而后家齊

(신수이후가제)하고 

[몸이 닦인 뒤에 

 집안이 가지런해지고]

家齊而后國治

(가제이후국치)하고 

[집안이 가지런해진 뒤에 

 나라가 다스려지고]

國治而后天下平

(국치이후천하평)이니라

[나라가 다스려진 뒤에 

 천하가 고르게 된다]
